Japan is full of theme cafes especially for mascots or anime characters like Hello Kitty, Rilakuma or the Sailor Moon Café. Those cafes exist mostly for a short period and often you can get special goods and of course they have a special menu based on the topic. Some cafes are even so popular, that other themed stores opened.
On 9 th September 2017 the new bakery café “Rascal Bakery by CHARABREAD” opened at the popular shopping district of Kichijoji in Tokyo. It takes around 10 minutes from the station to the bakery.
Rascal is a cute small raccoon from the popular Nippon Animation Studio “Rascal the raccoon (あらいぐまラスカル )”. Even the anime is from 1977 it is still very popular and you can still watch it on Japanese TV.
The two-story café has many kinds of freshly baked bread including official character style bread like the face and tail of Rascal. They also have different kinds of juices and coffee also in a rascal style.
The bread and coffee is very delicious and give you a big smile while eating. I enjoyed it very much to sit in the café and eat a cute rascal face bread, which has chocolate and some cereal inside. The café has around 30 seats and all is decorated with rascal dolls. There are also everywhere in the bakery and at the café small rascal pictures at the walls, which tells you to watch out your step in a very cute way. From October they also have a limited Lunch menu.
You can also find a small merchandise corner at the first floor. They selling various rascal goods including limited theme rascal goods called “Rascal Bakery”. Those Rascal Bakers goods can be purchased only at the Bakery in Kichijoji. The Bakery is a nice place to enjoy the world of rascal with a piece of rascal bread and coffee in a nice atmoshere!
At the opening weekend 9./10. September you could also meet a huge rascal mascot in front of the store. He was posing for photos and brought happiness to all the people who waited already long time for the opening of the bakery.
