Godzilla in Shinjuku – Japan’s world famous Monster is about to destroy Tokyo once again
Tokyo is a vibrant city and you will need an entire lifetime to discover all neighborhoods which built up the city of Tokyo. However, most visitors will at least pay a visit to Shinjuku area, even if it were only because of Shinjuku Station, being the biggest station in the world and connecting to almost all lines to get in and out of Tokyo, and the famous Kabukicho or Shinjuku Gyoen.
However, something has been terrorizing the neighborhood of Shunjuku since 2015. Near the famous Kabukicho area on top of the Shinjuku Toho Building the King of all Monsters, Godzilla, has made an appearance looking as fearless as ever and ready to take down Tokyo. Godzilla celebrated his 60th birthday in 2015 and therefore needed a permanent place in Shinjuku city.
The Toho Building is a cinema, but the Toho company is most famous for its movie productions, of which Godzilla is the most famous worldwide. It only made sense for Godzilla to show up in the day-to-day normal street life at this specific spot. (The street you will find the Godzilla head is near the Shinjuku Don-Quichote store)
The Godzilla head can not be missed when you happen to cross this street. The 12 meters tall Godzilla head is located on an outside terrace on top of the 40 meters high building, which can be visited to get a glance of this gi-normous creature popping this head out of the building and stand eye-to-eye with the most famous monster worldwide.
The building next to the Toho building, Hotel Gracery, also offers the Godzilla View Rooms, for those real hardcore fans who want to wake up next to this big monster head every day. Besides having 'normal' hotel rooms with only a Godzilla view there are also complete themed Godzilla Rooms available, decorated completely in style of the old fashioned Godzilla movies.
Also, if you happen to be in the area, the Godzilla statue is also lit up at night which creates an even more movie-esque type of atmosphere to enjoy this giant creature.
It may not be the main reason to pay a visit to Shinjuku, unless you are ofcourse a giant Godzilla fan, but when you are in the area this is definitely a quirky addition to your to-see list and to take a funny picture with this giant will be a blast.
