Higashiyama is a cultural hotspot. It is located at the western foot of Higashiyama Peak in Kyoto City. It includes bustling streets such as Gion but also has many quiet temples including Kiyomizu-ji Temple, Kodaiji Temple, Kenninji and Chishakuin Temple. The Kyoto National Museum is also located in this area.
Due to the historical monuments in the area, the government has protected the Higashiyama district. Subsequently, it is also the city with the least pollution in Kyoto. In mid-March every year, the "Tungshan Lanterns Road" activity is held. There are more than 2,500 lights and paper lanterns from Violet Courtyard to Maruyama Park and Yasaka Shrine.
In spring, you can go to Maruyama Park to admire the beauty of the sakura. In late autumn, you can go to the stage in Kiyomizu Temple to enjoy night maple. There are a lot of kimono rental shops, where you may put on a kimono. You can wear your kimono and take a walk along a peaceful stone path. Listen to the clog steps on the stone, visit the ceramic shops and enjoy a quaint and elegant time in Kyoto.
