Lovely old station and beautiful town. It's all beautiful, monkey sanctuary is so worth it, bamboo forest is a little smaller and more paved than I expected but still worth it for the view of the train tracks cutting through dense foliage as you cross it on foot like a Miyazaki film. The town is beautiful and I wish I had a little more money to go into the beautiful fancy looking restaurants lining the main street but I still managed to get some of the best soba I ever had in the hut half way up
While there are a lot of electric bike rentals in Arashiyama, do not try biking through the bamboo forest - it's not worth it. There are places to park your bike here, but you will have to weave in and out of many people at peak seasons.
A gorgeous spot to walk through. It was a little difficult to find the main entrance to the forest but just follow the main crowds and you'll get there. For some, be aware, there is a mild incline as you walk up the path through the bamboo.
Definitely check out the picturesque neighborhood surrounding the forest. Though touristy, there are some amazing parks and riverfront views.
