One of the nicer hostels I've stayed in, it was clean and comfortable. In saying that it's still a hostel and snorers are prevalent -- bring earplugs! Also K's house have locations at other places in Japan too.

K’s House is renowned on the Japanese backpacker scene for providing exceptional service at unbeatable prices. It’s a hostel through and through, but sets the standard for how all hostels should be: squeaky clean; warm and comfortable; friendly, informative service; light communal areas with enough room to either work, relax or socialise; and – most importantly – a free, unlimited supply of tea and filtered (not instant!) coffee.

The Kyoto branch exemplifies this more than any other, with the biggest communal lounge I’ve seen in any hostel, so spacious and quiet that even though one comfy guest was slumbering peacefully on a sofa, it was a good ten minutes before I noticed she was there. The location is ideal, a ten minute walk from JR Kyoto station and the website directions make it easy to find. You can walk easily to the Gion and Higashiyama areas, and the subway and a well-serviced bus stop are just along the road.

A buffet breakfast is served in the annexed café until midday and, while basic, is good value and staff are happy to chat and give local recommendations. There’s wifi throughout and there always seemed to be someone cleaning, so facilities were excellently maintained. Fluent English staff and the great location make this a perfect choice for first-time or solo travellers to Kyoto.
