The St. Marc Café (also referred to as Choco Cro) is a popular coffee shop chain that can be found in many of Tokyo’s popular locations. If you’re traveling through Japan and need some high quality Western breakfast, this café is one of the best options in any city.
The most popular food item the shop produces is, of course, the chocolate croissant (which is where it's nickname comes from). Guests enter the restaurant, grab a tray and take a pair of tongs, then select which treats they would like to eat from the bakery. The chocolate croissant is incredible here and just as good as anything you would find in Europe. In addition to the excellent bittersweet milk chocolate in the croissant’s center, you will notice a sprinkle of nuts on top, adding some additional flavor and texture.
The restaurant also serves an incredible baked egg sandwich on display next to the chocolate croissants. Either one of these would make a great meal to start the day, and if you’re especially hungry, grab one of each along with a cup of coffee.
The coffee served at St. Marc is just like its croissant: rich, bold and something any European would approve of. It is much stronger than a typical cup of Japanese coffee. You can also order a strong cup of Vietnamese styled coffee, if you want an even stronger cup of java. Guests coming in the afternoon can also enjoy some of the shops signature parfaits and desserts.
If you’re in Tokyo and need a caffeine boost or something to placate your sweet tooth, look for the circular orange Choco Cro sign and get ready to indulge!
